BACK-TO-BACK: Oklahoma Bears Capture CMFL Championship XIII

In the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, the Oklahoma Bears delivered a championship performance worthy of the gold standard on a hot July evening.

Behind explosive special teams, a relentless defense and a balanced offensive attack, the Bears defeated the St. Joe Bucks, 39–14, in CMFL Championship XIII to become back-to-back Central Midwest Football League champions, the 4th team to accomplish such a feat in CMFL history.

The scoring began when Oklahoma’s Daniel “Dark Knight” Knight fielded a St. Joe punt and exploded up the left sideline for a touchdown. David Goodson converted the extra point, giving the Bears an early 7–0 lead.

The Bears struck again later in the quarter. Quarterback Devin “Mr. July” White powered his way into the end zone on a designed quarterback run. The extra-point attempt was unsuccessful, but the Bears extended their advantage to 13–0.

The Bucks responded when CMFL Most Valuable Player Keante Green executed a speed-option pass and connected with Garyeon Simpson for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was stopped, leaving Oklahoma ahead 13–6.

The Bears answered with another methodical drive, finishing it with a rushing touchdown to increase the lead to 19–6.

Then Oklahoma’s defense took complete control.

Defensive lineman Devin Colbert Sr. jumped a St. Joe screen pass, intercepted it and returned it for a touchdown. Goodson added the extra point, pushing the Bears’ advantage to 26–6.

Rookie defensive back Darius Harrison intercepted Green and raced the other way for Oklahoma’s second pick-six of the game. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, but the Bears entered the late part of the game with a commanding 32–6 lead.

St. Joe continued to fight.

Green capped an extended Bucks possession with a short quarterback keeper for a touchdown. Julian Batts converted the two-point attempt, cutting Oklahoma’s lead to 32–14.

Oklahoma delivered the final blow when Adidas McDonald powered into the end zone for a rushing touchdown. Goodson’s extra point completed the scoring and gave the Bears a 39–14 lead.

That would be the final.

The Oklahoma Bears entered Kansas City as the defending champions and left with their place in CMFL history secured.

Two defensive touchdowns. 

A special-teams score. 

An explosive passing game.

A punishing rushing attack.

Another championship trophy.

And the beginning of what could be a dynasty.

The Gold Standard remains intact.
